Passenger Lifts

When speed and efficiency is required – for the transportation of any number of guests from small to large

Whether you need a small Domestic Passenger lift to comfortably transport you and you guests round your home, ensure as a small business you are DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant or a larger bespoke solution for your day to day business needs, Network Elevators have the solution to fit your budget and requirements.

We offer traction or hydraulic Passenger Lifts and our full range enables us to suit your exact requirements and tailor the aesthetics to fit your taste and building. Not only are different materials and finishes available on the exterior of the lifts, but we will also help with the important interior finishes such as handrails, panels, floors, mirrors and lighting to ensure you are completely satisfied with your lift.

Platform Lifts generally have a ‘swing door’ however if you require a small pit and low headroom solution that looks like a standard Passenger Lift, then a Machinery Directive lift could be for you. A cheaper solution, still with low running costs these ‘Residential Lifts’ can also be quoted to your aesthetic specification.

FAQ Passenger Lifts

What Type Of Passenger Lift Is Suitable For Me (Traction or Hydraulic)?

Passenger lifts are designed to safely and quickly transport people to their destination. The two types of technologies used to drive the lifts are Hydraulic or Traction. For low rise buildings Hydraulic Passenger lifts are normally the most competitive solution. Traction Passenger lifts are more suited to high rise buildings with higher passenger usage.

How Far Or How Many Floors Do You Require The Lift To Travel?

Hydraulic Lifts have a lower travelling speed than a Traction Lift, so we normally advise if you are only requiring transportation for up to 3 or 4 floors, then a Hydraulic is a more cost-effective solution for you. Traction does have higher speeds so would be more beneficial if you require above 3 floors and many people require to be transported on a daily basis.

Do I Need A Machine Room?

Both Hydraulic and Traction Lifts can be supplied MRL type (Motor Roomless Lifts) negating the need for a machine room.

How Many People Do You Wish To Transport (hourly)?

Traction Passenger Lifts are a more robust option, being able to be used many times hourly if not constantly. Hydraulic Passenger lifts are a more cost-effective solution if the lift is only required a few times an hour.

How Fast Can A Hydraulic And Traction Passenger Lift Travel?

Hydraulic Passenger lifts can reach speeds of 0.6 metres per second and traction Lifts can reach 1.6 metres per second. If you overall travel across 3 floors is only 6 metres and the lift isn’t used constantly, then we advise the cheaper Hydraulic option may be a better solution as the speed difference over 6 meters will only be very small.

How Many People Can A Hydraulic And Traction Passenger Lift Hold?

A Hydraulic Passenger Lift has no difference in cabin size from a Traction Passenger lift. The standard options are an 8 person (630kg) or 13 person (1000kg) lift however other options are available if space is smaller or requirements are larger, even up to 2500kg for Traction.

What Type Of Buildings Are Suitable For A Hydraulic Or Traction Passenger Lift

Traction lifts are the only solution for a large building with many floors (above 3 or 4) where speed is of the essence. Generally small office blocks, schools, homes, restaurants, residential homes and anything under 3 floors would suffice with a Hydraulic.

Are Hydraulic And Traction Lifts Up To Date With Current Regulations And Legislation?

Both Traction and Hydraulic lifts are up to date with EN 81-20 and EN 81-70 (Disability Discrimination Act 1995). EN81-20 is the latest regulation, all our lifts regardless of technology are up to standard.

Is On Going Maintenance Still Required For A Hydraulic And Traction Passenger Lift?

Yes, regular lift maintenance is required for both to ensure your lift is in good working order and also to prevent un-planned failure. We offer maintenance tailored to customers depending on how often your lift is used.

Do You Still Need The Same Amount Of Pit Space And Headroom For A Traction Or Hydraulic Passenger Lifts?

The Pit (the space under the lift) and the Headroom (the space on top of the lift) is required by law on both technologies. There is a small difference in the amount of space needed for each, please see below. If you have very little space, not much speed requirements and little usage, you could also look at Platform Lifts.

Pit Hydraulic – 1200mm Traction – 1100mm Headroom Hydraulic – 3400mm Traction – 3600mm
